Cost Sharing Calculation Explained

Let’s use a Project Documentary similar to a ‘The Local Project’ film where there is the architect and another supplier speaking on screen as an example.

We have a $4200 rate for one days filming and editing. $4200 might be a lot of money for some firms to absorb for a film.

Here’s where cost sharing comes into play.

We can present that architect with the option of cost sharing by getting other parties who may have a need or want for the film involved in the project.

For example; the architect reaches out to the builder, landscape architect or lighting designer and they would love to have a section of the film showing their input to the project.  So we add them to our total invoice as a licensee/additional party. The way that I do it is I add 25% to the final invoice.

So in this case, a $4200 invoice + 25% per party, would add $1050 to the invoice for that landscape architect license. That brings us to a total of $5250 for the same film.

As a result, having two parties means we can divide that invoice by two and charge each party, $2625. This has just saved the architect over $1575. Three parties is $2100 with a saving of $2100

The maximum parties per film is 3.
